The Shag, the bird with the naughtiest name except for the Horny Grebe in Western Australia and Honey Hooters in Hollywood.

After nearly 50 years living on the coast of Portlethen I still don’t know the difference between the Shag and a Cormorant and I’ve “googled” them both to determine the difference but I’m still none the wiser. Are they the same bird? Do we have both Cormorants and Shags along our coast? Apparently there are 40 different species of shags or cormorants, some with crests and some without and I believe that our version has a crest of sorts.

Okay I’ve checked again. I think we have Cormorants!
